About One in Four

One in Four was established in 2003 with a mission to end the trauma of child sexual abuse and a vision for an Irish society where children are safe from the threat of sexual harm. To achieve this, the charity provides specialist psychotherapy and advocacy support to both those who have experienced sexual abuse in childhood and their families. They currently work with c.850 clients per annum.

The charity also has a prevention programme which focuses on working with individuals who have been sexually offended as a core child protection intervention. One in Four has a role in influencing national policy through dialogue with policymakers at every level to ensure that the legislation and processes that have an impact on those they support are sensitive to their clients' needs.

Over the last two decades, the organisation has established a high profile and excellent reputation in public discourse regarding the prevalence and effects of child sexual abuse.

With a new CEO at the helm since April 2024, One in Four is at exciting point as the organisation finalises development of a new strategic plan.  The Strategic Engagement Director is a new role that has been created against this backdrop, replacing and building on what was previously a Head of Fundraising role.  The remit of this new role is far wider and at senior leadership level to drive the next chapter.

The Role

One in Four is seeking a Strategic Engagement Director to establish and lead their dedicated communications, advocacy and fundraising functions. The successful candidate will develop and implement nuanced strategies to engage key stakeholders, manage reputational risks, secure sustainable funding, and position One in Four as a trusted and influential voice in the field of childhood sexual abuse and preventing further harm.

  • Strategic communication expertise: Ability to develop and implement nuanced communication strategies for sensitive topics related to childhood sexual abuse and prevention.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Skills in building and managing relationships with diverse stakeholders including funders, philanthropic partners, policymakers, and the wider community.
  • Fundraising and partnership development: Experience in securing significant partnerships and funding, as well as developing compelling funding proposals.
  • Project management: Ability to oversee multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Leadership and team management: Skills in guiding a team and influencing engagement strategy.
  • Policy: Understanding of the policy landscape, particularly related to the Third National Strategy on DSGBV.
  • Advocacy experience: Proven track record in advocacy roles, particularly in areas related to domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence (DSGBV).
  • Fundraising and partnership development: Experience in securing significant partnerships and funding, as well as developing compelling funding proposals.
  • Project management: Ability to oversee multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.

If you are a strategic, experienced, and driven leader with strategic communications and fundraising experience, this could be the role for you!
